Funeral Recording
Zanita Hamelwright Vincent, age 83, passed away suddenly but peacefully from cancer on June 5, 2020 surrounded by her loving husband and family. She was born July 19, 1936 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Movell C. and Helen Thorne Hamelwright.
Zan married the love of her life, Robert Daniel Vincent, on March 24, 1954 in the Salt Lake Temple. Together they had six children and resided in Salt Lake City.
Zan was a warm, fun-loving, tender and kind woman who loved all unconditionally. Her hugs and twinkling smile were shared freely. She could strike up a conversation with anyone, anywhere and she made friends wherever she went. Zan worked as the secretary at the Brighton High Seminary for nearly 30 years. Consequently, she would run into someone she knew wherever she went, even as far away as New Orleans and New York.
Zan was a wonderful cook and made melt-in-your-mouth rolls and heavenly lemon meringue pie, which was Bob’s favorite. Another favorite of Bob’s was tomato rice soup. Her children swear she made it in the canning kettle and they had to eat it for a week. Countless friends, neighbors and family members have savored Zan’s home-made spudnuts which she made every Halloween, a tradition that her children carry on with their families to this day.
Being with her family and playing games was one of Zan’sbiggest joys. Pinochle is the game of choice at family gatherings, not only with her children, but with many of her grandchildren as well (But beware, Grandma cheats!)
A life-long member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Zan loved her Savior and had an unwavering testimony of Him. She served tirelessly in various positions in the church. Many of her callings were with the youth of the church. How she loved them! A kid at heart that loved the outdoors, she attended Girl’s camp in excess of 15 years. Temple work was especially close to her heart. She and Bob served in the Jordan River Temple Baptistry for 19 years. In addition to that, they served as missionaries on Temple Square for 8 years. Her example was felt by countless people of all ages and walks of life.
Zan is survived by Bob, her husband and sweetheart of 66 years; six children: Sue Zan, Sharon (Peter) Lenhart, Mark (Laurie), Shane (Alecia), Darin (Suzanne) and Dana Gruer. She is Grandma to 29 grandchildren and a great-grandma to 5 great grandchildren; her sister-in-law and brother-in-law Lois and Rollie Senior. She is preceded in death by her parents, her sister Kay, 3 sisters-in-law, 4 brothers-in-law and 2 grandsons, Travis and Bryce Vincent.
