Winifred Charlotte Roper
1922 - 2014
Our beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, Winifred Charlotte Roper, 91, passed away peacefully on February 19, 2014 at Crosslands nursing home, Sandy, Utah.
Charlotte was born on August 10, 1922, in Milford, Utah, to James F & Margaret Aleene Farmer. She attended grammar school in Milford and Lynndyl Utah and Caliente Nevada. She graduated from Lincoln County High School in Panaca, Nevada in 1939. On March 8, 1942, shortly after moving to Los Angeles, she married Alvin Charley Roper of Oak City, Utah. On August 10, 1976, they were sealed in the Los Angeles Temple. At the time of her passing, they were one month shy of their 72nd anniversary.
After the war, they remained residents of Los Angeles for 32 years and raised their three children, Charles, Richard and Margaret. Charlotte was a faithful member of the LDS church, serving frequently in the Primary organization in the Hollywood Ward. She was a superb cook, and was known especially for her desserts. She used those skills as she worked in the food service industry, starting with the Farmer’s Market in Los Angeles and finishing with Leslie’s French Bakery in Holladay. She was also an avid and loyal fan of the LA Lakers!
Upon Charley’s retirement in 1978, they returned to Utah and lived in Cottonwood Heights. They made new friends and enjoyed living close to many relatives. She and Charley also enjoyed many years of traveling to visit friends and family, especially the grandchildren.
Preceded in death by her parents and brother, William. Survived by husband Charley, sons Charles (Jane) and Richard (Colleen), and daughter Margaret (Douglas) Peck; grandchildren Spencer (Erin), Elliot (Maggie), Brett (Laura), Preston, Douglas, Emily (Aaron) Roberts, Allison and Brian Peck; and, great-children Madeline, William, Nolan.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 1, 2014, 11:00 am at the Cottonwood Heights Ward LDS Chapel, 7075 South, 2245 East, Salt Lake City, Utah, 84121. Visitation with the family will be Friday, February 28, 6:00 pm-8:00 pm at Cannon Mortuary 2460 E. Bengal Blvd., Salt Lake City, Utah and the day of the service at the church from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. Interment Mountain View Memorial Estates.
