Valorie Garff Cox
1932 - 2016
Valorie Jean Garff Cox, 84, passed away on October 26, 2016. She was born February 17, 1932, in Salt Lake City, to Val and Jean Garff. She grew up in Sugar House and graduated from East High School and Brigham Young University. Valorie met her husband, Verl J Cox, at BYU when he was sitting in her favorite seat in a class. They married in the Salt Lake Temple on December 7, 1956. Valorie taught school, and raised five children in Cottonwood Heights, where they made their home. She loved music, especially classical music and opera, and played the piano and organ. She was a talented artist and an avid genealogist. She was a lifelong, active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and served in several callings.
Verl preceded her in death just over 20 years ago. Valorie is survived by her children, Jonathan Cox (Michele), Michael Cox (Kaye), Shauna Poulson (Eric), Christina Stanley (Mike), and Jake Cox; 8 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; her brother, Robert Garff (Penny); her sister, Annette Earl; and a few dear friends.
Friends may call at the Cannon Mortuary, 2460 E. Bengal Blvd. (7600 South), Tuesday morning, November 1, 2016, from 10:00 to 11:00, and a graveside service afterward, 11:30 a.m. at Elysian Burial Gardens, 1075 E. 4580 South.
