With heavy hearts, the family of Timothy Earl Nelson Payne, 65, shares the news of his passing on November 6, 2024. Born in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, on April 14, 1959, to Daniel Brandley Nelson and Joan Greenhalgh, Tim was a man full of love, laughter & could command a room with his big energy and ability to tell stories. He enjoyed an active childhood, playing hockey, football, running and skiing, and later served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Anaheim, California.
Tim attended Brigham Young University, where he met and married Karen Thome. They were sealed in the Jordan River Temple in 1982 and built a beautiful family together, raising 10 children—four daughters and six sons—whom he adored. Tim was immensely proud of his children and delighted in spending time with them, whether boating at Lake Powell, hiking Donut Falls, fishing with his sons, scuba diving, traveling, or simply enjoying the game of baseball. He was also known for his love of the Pittsburgh Steelers and his musical talents, often playing the piano and harmonica for family and friends.
Tim is survived by his 10 children: Shelisa, Coreena (Matt) Dibb, Marissa (Manti) Gleason, Danny (Haley), Mikey (Amy), Marcus (Amy), Brayden, Devin, Jaydra (Parker) Thompson, Jerrick, and their mother Karen Payne; 19 grandchildren who lovingly called him “Kappa,” including Lily, Luke, George, Oliver, Madelyn, Jonas, Sam, Tyson, Tate, Isabelle, Scarlett, Myles, Murphy, Mason, Violet, Calvin, Desmond, Marley and Wesley. He is also survived by his parents, Bill and Joan Payne; siblings Jack (Barb) Payne, Kathy (Ron) Comfort, Bob, Lisa (Bryce) Campbell, Joey (Erin) Payne, and Billy (Catrina) Payne, along with numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, and uncles. He was preceded in death by his father, Danny.
Tim will be remembered for his vibrant spirit, and the lasting impact he had on all who knew him. He leaves behind a legacy of love and joy that will continue to inspire those who were blessed to be part of his life.
