Terrance LeRoy (Roy) Cook
1926 – 2012
Terrance LeRoy (Roy) Cook passed away from pancreatic cancer on February 22, 2012.
Roy was born on August 31, 1926 in Taylor, Idaho to Joshua Lawrence Cook and Violet Hardy Cook. He married Donna Sandberg in the Logan Temple over sixty years ago.
Roy worked on his brother-in-law’s ranch while attending high school in Northern California. He loved high school there and was on the basketball team and was the catcher for baseball team. Roy served a mission for the LDS Church in the Southern States mission where he spent all of his two and half years of service in Louisiana. Upon his return from his mission, he enlisted in the Army and served in Germany for 28 months during the Korean War.
Roy was a very hard worker. He worked for EIMCO as a journeyman/machinist for 40 years. He was always available to help family, neighbors and friends with any yard work, handy work or just plain work. He knew how to fix everything!
After he retired, he and Donna spent three years on a church service mission in the member location office at the Church Office Building. Roy was a genealogy enthusiast, spending many tireless hours searching for family members. He spent most Monday and Wednesdays at the Family History Library in downtown Salt Lake City with his wife. They were able to do temple work for thousands of family members they found during their research. They loved to spend time together doing anything and everything, especially going to lunch together! He loved being on vacation and especially loved trips to Disneyland with his family and grandkids. He always appreciated a good meal and a funny joke.
Some of his fondest memories were: Traveling through Ohio/Pennsylvania cemeteries for family names, a trip to Hawaii where he had always dreamed of going, an Alaska cruise, countless bus trips with their friends, trips to Seattle to see his son, and many Disneyland and Disneyworld trips with his family where his favorite rides were California Screamin’ and Big Thunder Mountain.
He is survived by his wife and children: Kathy Loewy, Dan (Mareen) Cook, Janeen (Craig) Gaisford; and grandchildren: Krystal Loewy, Steven (Jennifer) Loewy, David Cook, Adam Cook, Kelsie Cook, Nichole (Phil) Swink, Allison (Sean) Steinman, Loni Gaisford; as well as three great-grandchildren: Alex and Andie Whistler and Samuel Loewy.
Our family expresses their love to the many friends, neighbors, ward members, and extended family for their visits, love and friendship. We would also like to express our gratitude to Midas Creek Home Health, Vista Care Hospice and Dr. Rod McKinlay and the staff at St. Mark’s Hospital.
Preceded in death by his parents, sister LaVie
na, and son-in-law Jim Loewy
