Steven Daryl Smith passed away surrounded by loved ones, Thursday morning, October 29, 2020 after a long battle with Parkinson’s Disease.

Born November 27, 1944 in Orem, Utah to Beth E. Hutchings and Ned Steven Smith, Married Frances Eugenia (Jean) Parris on August 8, 1969, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Graduated from Orem High School in 1962 and California School of Podiatric Medicine in 1974. Served in The Texas Mission from 1965-1967 for the LDS Church.

Steve was a beloved podiatrist and improved the lives of those that he served. Prior to retiring from his practice, he served as the President of the Utah Podiatry Association from 1984-1985 and was awarded Podiatrist of the Year in 1992. He was always willing to jump in and calmly diffuse any neighborhood emergencies with his patient and loving disposition. He was known as the neighborhood doctor welcoming calls at all times of the night or day to fix up neighborhood kids with stitches or cast a broken limb. Sometimes people would even bring their pets to him for treatment.

He loved camping and hiking with his childhood friends Ned and Wayne and could often be found taking his family, scouts, and youth groups on outdoor adventures. He took great pride in the years he served as caretaker of the Brighton Meadows LDS Campgrounds. Some of his favorite places to go were Southern Utah and Yellowstone National Park. Easter Sunday’s were often spent camping near Torrey with family and friends.

He was always so patient with his children calmly trying to help his kids with various problems. He was also very welcoming to his kids friends. The house was often filled with groups of kids that he would treat as his own. He was very supportive of his kids’ activities and loved to support his grandchildren as the ‘show and tell’ doctor at school.

Survived by his wife of 51 years, Jean, and children Jason (Sherry) Smith, Noelle Smith, Courtney (Chad) Williams, Hilary Smith, Zach (Cecily) Smith. Grandchildren: Noah, Jonah, Maggie, Foster Smith; Brenna Williams, Kara (Ricky) Godin, Seth Williams; Stone, Sebastian, Scarlett and Silas Smith. Siblings Jerlene (Dale) Kerby, Debbie Smith, Harold (Sue) Smith and LaNae (Evan) Green and extended family and friends. Preceded in death by his mother, father and sister Eva Dee Smith.
