“You mean I have to wait to get to heaven to see grandpa again!”            Great Grandson Brooks

Stanley Mervin Richins, beloved Husband, Brother, Father, Grandpa and Friend, returned home to our heavenly father on March 29th, 2025, a little more suddenly than we would have liked. Stan was born April 14, 1945, to Marie and Mervin Richins in Forest Grove, Oregon. He moved to Hennifer, Utah as an infant and grew up in Holladay, Utah where he met his wife of 58 years, Susan Hill. After just three dates and the letters she wrote to him while serving his mission, he knew Sue was the one. They were married in the Salt Lake Temple on March 20th, 1967.

Stan was an active member of the LDS church, holding numerous callings throughout his life. He served an LDS mission in England in the Southwest British Mission. While there he turned down the opportunity to see the Beatles, not knowing yet who they were or what they would become. After his mission he served in the US Maries Corp.

Throughout their marriage Stan and Sue raised their 6 children in Granite, Utah. He worked in construction, in different roles throughout his life and enjoyed pointing out the various buildings he played a part in.

Stan was an avid fly fisherman and loved to take his kids hunting and camping on their family ranch. He taught his children all he knew, some of their most memorable lessons were how to break golf clubs, throw tools while working on cars and how to use a variety of very colorful language. Most importantly he modeled and taught every one of them an impeccable work ethic. Those who knew Stan know he was not short on stories about his kids and their hard work, dedication and accomplishments, he didn’t need to tell you how proud they made him.

Many years later Stan and Sue enjoyed serving a mission together at the LDS Conference Center. He shocked us all when he shaved his infamous mustache to serve in the Draper Temple. Throughout his years of service his favorite calling was with Sue in the church’s primary.

Stan’s booming voice and presence will forever be missed by all of us that have loved him dearly. We will continue to tell his stories and jokes to anyone that will listen and picture him falling effortlessly asleep wherever he sat long enough.

Preceded in death by his father & mother, Mervin & Marie Richins, father & mother-in-law Keith & Fern Hill, brother-in-law, Steve Johnson and sister-in-law, Annette Hill. Survived by his wife Susan; Son’s Cory (Jeanne), Scott (Ashlie), JJ (Amelia); Daughters, Staci, Heidi (Jason) & Amy (Grant); 23 Grandchildren, 3 Great Grandchildren & Sister Virginia
