Sheldon Wayne Bee, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away on Thursday, May 8, 2014. Wayne was born on December 15, 1942, in South San Francisco, California, to Alice Virginia Pett and Earl Sheldon Bee, and grew up in Southern California.
He graduated from Culver City High where he played football and baseball. He was a pitcher on the Santa Monica Junior College team. Following his West Mexican Mission for the LDS Church, he graduated from BYU with degrees in Spanish and Sociology. He earned a master’s degree in International Business from Thunderbird School of Global Management. He had a very fulfilling professional career; 17 years in international business followed by 26 years as a HR Director for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Wayne found happiness in spending time with his children and grandchildren and attending their various activities. He was a life-long, avid BYU fan. He never missed a football or basketball game and always had a couple grandchildren in tow. They now proudly wear the colors blue and white. He loved to entertain his children, grandchildren, and friends fishing on his boat at Strawberry Reservoir. We will miss the days watching him body surf in the So. CA waves and our annual trips to Yellowstone. The grandchildren will miss these moments with their “Epa.”
A faithful member of the LDS Church, he served in various Church leadership positions including counselor to the president of the Florida Fort Lauderdale Mission (now the Puerto Rico San Juan Mission), District President, and recently served a mission with his wife in the Hispanic Initiative.
He and his sweetheart, Carol Diane Smith, were married in the Los Angeles California Temple on September 11, 1965. He is survived by his wife, his five children: Marc Wayne, Michael Sheldon (Catherine), Alicia Michele Cate (Collin), Jared Thomas (Natalie), and Travis Earl (Amanda), 18 grandchildren, and one great-granddaughter. He was preceded in death by his first grandchild, Meagan, his parents, and sister, Barbara.
Funeral services will be held Friday, May 16, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. at the Dover Hill Chapel located at 3625 Dover Hill Drive in Cottonwood Heights, Utah. A viewing will be held Thursday evening, May 15, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Cannon Mortuary, 2460 Bengal Blvd. (7600 S.) and at the chapel on Friday at 9:30 - 10:45 a.m. Interment will be at the Bloomington Idaho City Cemetery in Bloomington, Idaho.
