Ruth Rytting Potter Kunkel

1934 - 2014

Our beloved mom and grandma, Ruth Kunkel, passed away peacefully on March 19, 2014 at the age of 80.  She was born in Malad, Idaho on February 8, 1934 to Andrew and Alvaretta Rytting. She grew up in Tremonton, Utah where she graduated from Bear River High School.  She attended BYU, Utah State, and the University of Utah, obtaining degrees/certifications at various times in her life.  She was a life-long educator, working for most of her career in Davis County. She was a teacher, an administrator, and an elementary school principal.  Her favorite entertainment was a good book.  She loved seeing, smelling, and growing beautiful flowers.  And in her younger years, she was an accomplished golfer.  She enjoyed all kinds of traveling/adventures from geological digs in Utah to riding camels in Egypt.  She had a love for learning - both secular and spiritual.  She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  She served in various capacities and especially enjoyed her time of service in the Salt Lake Temple.  She loved the Lord and put His teachings into practice.  Those who knew her loved her.  She was kind to all and accepting of everyone.  She was a wonderful mom, grandma, and friend and will be missed by many.

She is preceded in death by her son, Robbie Potter, her sister, Bonnie Rytting Jones, and her brothers, Brent Rytting and Lorry Rytting.  She is survived by her daughters, Bonnie Kunkel, and Michelle (Craig) Child, and her four grandchildren, Amy, Colby, Laura, and Jason Child.

Special thanks to the compassionate staff at Highland Cove Retirement Community, Dr. Nathan Ragle and staff at the Madsen Clinic, and Rocky Mountain Hospice. Funeral services will be held at Cannon Mortuary, 2460 Bengal Blvd. (7600 South) on Monday, March 24 at 11:00 a.m. with a viewing prior from 10:00-10:45 a.m . Interment will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Salt Lake City.
