Early in the morning of M a r c h 1 7 , Russ ell A n derson Ca n non died pe a ce f u lly at h o me . H e was born on J une 2 5 , 1 928 i n Sal t La k e C it y, Utah to Wi l liam Tenney and Ge ne v e A n ders o n Cannon. He was the third of their four children.
He at tend ed s cho o ls in Utah and i n W a shingt o n D.C . After atte n di n g BY U he left fo r a missio n t o Argen t ina . Upon his return h e a t t e nded U . C . L . A and then U SC w here h e r ece iv ed h is law D egree.
In 1954 he m a rried M ar i ly n C r e e r i n th e S a lt Lake Temp l e . They are t he p a r ent s of th r ee c hil d ren , Scott Cannon of D r aper, Utah , Cath y C an n on of San D i eg o , C aliforn ia , a n d T e r ry Lynn McAl l ister of Seatt l e, Washington.
Throughout his lif e , Russ was a f ait h fu l member of the Churc h o f Je su s Christ o f Latter- da y Sain t s , something hi s parents i n sti l le d i n h im at a you n g age . Besides his full - t i me mis s i o n as a young elder, h e served a m i s sio n i n C hile with his wi f e , a miss io n o n Templ e Squar e, a Public Aff a i rs m i s s i o n, a n d s e ver a l St a ke m i ssions. H is m an y othe r Church ca l lings i n clude servi n g as a b i s h op , s e r vi ng on se veral Hi g h Counci l s and as Stak e e xecutive secretary . He was also an ord i na n c e wo r ker i n t he J o r dan Riv e r Temple. He l oved t he L or d and s erved wil l ingly and unse l fish ly a ll the d ays o f hi s life.
He also reco g niz e d th e i m port a nce of s erving in t he comm u nity. H e ser v ed on a sc h oo l boa r d in C a l i f ornia , as a me m be r o f t h e State Legislatu r e i n U tah and in s eve r al Rotary c l ubs . H e was the founder and cha r ter p res i dent o f the Drap e r Rotary club . He was act i v e in t h e S ons of the Ut ah Pioneers and served as a c ha p ter p resident and on the natio n al b oard.
Russell is preceded in death by h i s p a rents a nd t wo sisters, He l en S t itt a nd Sally Hacking. He i s sur v ived b y wife, Marilyn, brother , William T C a nno n, and by hi s chil dr en and grandchi ldren, Travis McAl l ister and Torrie Cannon.
Funera l services w i ll be h e l d on S a tur d ay M a r ch 22 , at 11 : 00 a.m. a t the Sou t h Mou n tai n Stake Cen ter, 19 11 Gr e y F o x D rive in Draper (next to the Dra pe r t em pl e ). There wi l l b e a vie w ing tha t morni n g from 9:3 0- 1 0:45a.m.
Interment will be at the Valley Vie w Me mo rial Park at 4335 Wes t, 4100 South, West Valley City, Utah
