Robert George Ostler

1930-2015

Robert George Ostler was the last-born child of George Taylor Ostler and Della Worthington Ostler, on October 30, 1930, in Nephi, Utah.  He was the last-departed, on April 7, 2015, in Cottonwood Heights, Utah.  Parents, half-brother Thomas Harrison, baby sister Leah, and brother Leland (Skip) all preceded him in death.

He grew up in Nephi and, as a young adult, moved to Salt Lake City where he graduated from Stevens-Henager Business College.  He worked as an accountant most of his life. He married Rosalyn Alice Whitaker on May 15, 1953, in the Manti LDS Temple.  They lived all 62 years of their marriage in the Salt Lake valley, where they became parents of 7 children, all living—Michael Robert (Debbie) of Tempe, AZ, Steven Mark (Bobbie), Sally Anne, James Craig, Gregory Lyn (Lyz), Timothy Edward (Kellie), and Suzanne Margaret (Brad) Curley.  Bob and Rose are grandparents to 18 and great-grandparents to a growing bunch.  He was a pilot, achieving his license soon after high school.  He flew as a member of a flying club, joined the Civil Air Patrol and went on many search-and-rescue flights.  Finally, he realized his life’s dream of owning his own plane, a 175 Cessna, 59Echo.

Robert was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving as financial clerk for a number of years and in various other callings.  He was a home teacher right to the end, even after he was bedfast.

Viewing will be Monday, April 13, 6-8 pm at Cannon Mortuary, 2460 East Bengal Blvd (7600 South) and at 10-10:45 a.m. Tuesday, April 14, at Brighton 6 th Ward chapel, 2925 E. Bengal, funeral to follow at 11:00 am.  Burial at Mountain View Memorial Estates.  Please, no flowers—do a kindness, large or small, for someone instead.
