RKay Mower
1925 - 2011
Our beloved Father, Grandfather, Great-grandfather, Uncle and friend, RKay Mower, closed his big beautiful blue eyes while surrounded by his loving family and went to Heaven on October 21, 2011 at the age of 86. He was born on September 1, 1925 to Marion and Betsy Mower in Salt Lake City, Utah. After serving in World War II, he returned home and met and married Constance H.M. Barrett, and together they had four adoring daughters. Many years later after their divorce, he married LaRieta Freeman; now divorced.
He was honored to serve in the U.S. Army in the Battle of the Bulge and later in the U.S. Air Force in World War II. He was a decorated veteran and was chosen to be one of 11 honorees at the University of Utah’s Commemoration Ceremony for Veterans on November 11, 2011. He served with love and pride to provide freedom for all of us. He fought for all of the important values that have helped shape this great nation, its people, and the world. He did his part in protecting the life of America and the human experience and we are honored and so proud of him for making that sacrifice. He was simply the bravest of the brave.
As a young man, Dad was able to visualize and create his resort,
Shady Lake
, that he was so proud of. It was a sanctuary of Weeping Willows and a natural spring lake which provided the perfect setting for bringing people together. He loved his church and was a devout member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Our Daddy will be remembered for his wonderful sense of humor and fabulous jokes, but most of all his kind, tender heart and his desire to serve others. Lover of all sports, he was also an avid fisherman and never let the big one get away! Dad is our very own hero forever, a remarkable, extraordinary man who embraced life. He was an amazing teacher and priceless example for all that is good, especially to his family. He was the world’s best grandpa and absolutely adored by every one of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. We have been honored and blessed to have him as our father. There are no words to express how much he will be loved and missed in every way.
Survived by his four daughters, Shawna (Ronald) Blackhurst; Tamara Johnson, Ronda (Tom) O’Leary, and Lana (Rodney) Davis, as well as eight grandchildren, two step-grandsons, two great-grandchildren, nieces, nephew and loyal kitty, Gus. Preceded in death by his mother and father, siblings: Herbert, Preal, Mildred, Leola, Gene, D.V., George and nephew, David.
