Richard Wayne Johnson

1923 - 2013

Richard W. Johnson passed away on June 8, 2013. He was born in Los Angeles, CA on September 21, 1923 to Sarah and Anders Johnson. He grew up in Inglewood, CA where he played football, was senior class president and graduated from Inglewood High School. After serving in the U.S. Navy from 1943 to1946, "Richie" married the love of his life, Alta Sneperger, with whom he had three children, worked as a Cadillac salesman, belonged to the 20/30 and Lions Clubs, and was active in the Lutheran Church and various community groups until he and Alta retired and moved to Sandy, Utah in 1988. Golf, gardening and woodwork became his favorite hobbies. Rich’s primary goal in life was to make someone smile each day. He genuinely cared about everyone he met and his love of life kept him strong for all those who loved him.

Rich is survived by his three children who will miss him forever, Bob Johnson, Marsha Goff (Dennis), and Janie Heller (Tim). He was a devoted grandfather to Matt Heller, Jake Heller and Cassandra Goff, and great-grandfather to Ryan Heller and Alex Zeroski. Rich is also survived by his two wonderful sisters, Shirl Granere and Betty Cassell, who were his other partners in life and with whom he shared so many joys and a few sorrows (the loss of their brother Robert) for more than 80 years. He loved each of his nine nieces and nephews as if they were his own. Rich also leaves behind many cherished friendships, some of which go back 85 years. His very happy life will be celebrated on Saturday and he will be forever remembered with affection.
