Richard C. DeKorver (CMS)
1936- 2015
As the world turned, Rich took a nap and was peacefully called home on a beautiful afternoon on Veterans Day November 11, 2015; a day he loved and a country he served and cherished. He was a true patriot. Rich was born October 14, 1936 to Beatrice Freeman and Cornelius (Jack) DeKorver.
He graduated from Granite High School in 1954. At 18 after graduation, Dick joined the Air National Guard, where he proudly served for 40 years obtaining the rank of Chief Master Sergeant, (CMS) for 14 years until his retirement. Chief DeKorver received numerous individual awards, including the Air force Meritorious Achievement Award, United States Meritorious Service Award and the Senior NCO in the year of 1992.
Dick married Linda Jones Griffith on March 22, 1979 in Maui, Hawaii.
After his retirement in the Guard he worked at IHC Hospitals in SLC, where he retired after 8 years. He enjoyed many activities including custom cars, bowling, 1962 SLC Champs softball, the Starzz/Jazz, the Utes and fishing.
He is survived by 3 step-children, Larry (Patti) Griffith, Dana (Evan) Cowan, Diane (Joseph) Burns, grandchildren, Annie Miller, Zac Griffith, Chelsey Burns, Carly Boyer, Cody Cowan, Nick Griffith, Dane Burns, Ginnie Griffith and 12 great grandchildren, cousins, Barbara Nemelka, Judi Piepgras, sister-in-law, Laura DeKorver, niece, Deanne Arvizu and nephew, Jeff DeKorver. Preceded in death by parents, wife and brother, Martin LaMar DeKorver.
A memorial will be held Saturday, November 21, 2015, 10:30 a.m. at the Cannon Mortuary, 2460 E. Bengal Blvd. (7600 S.) with services beginning at 11:00 a.m.
