In Loving Memory of
Randal Kay "Randy" Jepperson
With heavy hearts yet full of gratitude for the life he lived, we honor the memory of Randal Kay Jepperson—our beloved brother, father, grandfather, and friend. Randy was born on a cold Sunday in Salt Lake City, Utah, and from the very start, he brought warmth, laughter, and a deep love for life to all who knew him.
From his early years growing up in Utah and California, Randy found joy in the outdoors. Whether tending to his vegetable gardens, fishing in Big Cottonwood Creek, or spending summers at the beach, he was happiest when surrounded by nature. These passions followed him throughout his life, shaping the man he became.
After graduating from Granite High School, Randy served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Argentina, where he developed a lifelong admiration for the culture and people. Upon his return, he married, started a family, and pursued his education, eventually earning a master’s degree in economics.
Randy’s career was a reflection of his deep commitment to service. He first built a thriving landscaping business, creating jobs for family members along the way. Later, he dedicated thirty years as an economist for the State of Utah and Salt Lake County, where he worked tirelessly on projects like "Get the Lead Out" and "Green and Healthy Homes." Even in retirement, Randy continued his mission of helping others, working with Habitat for Humanity to make safe and affordable housing a reality for those in need. His impact will be felt for generations to come.
“His efforts helped make safe and affordable housing a reality for many families, and we are incredibly grateful for the time and passion he put into our mission. He spoke often of how much he loved working with our team, and we feel truly fortunate to have had the opportunity to work alongside him.
Please know that Randy’s contributions will not be forgotten, and his legacy of generosity and commitment to service will continue to inspire us. Our thoughts are with you and your family during this very difficult time.”

This note from the Director of Habitate said it all Randy’s efforts were in a broad range of projects but all included help for the needy, less fortunate or disadvantaged.
Above all, Randy’s greatest love was his family. He was a devoted father to Stephanie, Kyle (who preceded him in passing), Dustin, and Derrick, and a cherished grandfather. His children and grandchildren were his pride and joy, and he never missed an opportunity to share stories about them or encourage their passions.
Randy was also the best kind of friend—one who would happily take you fishing, hiking, or on a spontaneous adventure. He found peace on the water, casting his line in rivers across the West, from the Madison in Montana to hidden spots shared by his uncle Mel. He never turned down a chance to be outdoors, whether skiing, boating, or simply enjoying nature with those he loved.
Though our hearts ache with his passing, we take comfort in knowing he lived fully, loved deeply, and left the world better than he found it. In honor of his wishes, we will celebrate his life with joy, not sorrow.
The family will host a gathering at Cannon Mortuary, 2460 Bengal Blvd, (7600 South) Cottonwood Heights, UT 84121 at 11:30 AM, followed by a graveside dedication and burial at Mountain View Cemetery, 3115 Bengal Blvd (7800 South) Cottonwood Heights, UT 84121, where Randy will be laid to rest beside his son Kyle.
"Go confidently in the direction of your dreams. Live the life you have imagined."
— Henry David Thoreau
Randy loved reading Thoreau.
To all who knew and loved Randy, thank you for being a part of his journey. May we honor his memory by embracing the outdoors, helping those in need, and always making time for the people who matter most.
If you did not know Randy this obituary is not the sum of his life, only a tiny very small glance of a much bigger life.
Fish on, Randy. We’ll see you on the river.
