Funeral Recording
Randy Buie, “the legend”, Loving Husband, Father, grandfather, brother and friend left this world far too soon. He passed away unexpectedly at his home in Sandy, Utah from natural causes. Born on October 18, 1950 in Salt Lake City Utah to William Thomas and Mildred Minerva Baker. Randy attended Granite High School, and the University of Utah. He served as a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in the Eastern Atlantic States mission. He married and was sealed to Cynthia Rasmussen in the Salt Lake Temple on August, 25, 1978.
Randy was a “full-time biker, part time salesman.” One of his favorite quotes and words he lived by, “ It never gets any easier, you just get faster.” He was happiest when he was grinding his way up a mountain, pushing his body to the limit and taking great care of his health. He cherished the friendships made and life lessons learned from cycling and loved to share them with whomever would listen. He never looked for the easy route, nothing would stop him from accomplishing what he set out to do. He was fearless, and lived life on the edge, perhaps a little too close to the edge, used all 9 lives, plus a few extra and he truly experienced all life had to offer, and loved every minute.
In his profession as a salesman, he was dedicated and committed to doing whatever he could to help those he worked with, he was kind and always created friendships with those he came into contact with, was hard-working and never looked for short-cuts, held to his standards in the face of challenges and lived a life of honesty and integrity and tried to do his best in all he did.
He enjoyed the outdoors and recreation of all types. With family and friends, he spent years boating, riding motorcycles, snowmobiling, Moab jeeping, sailing, fishing, and of course cycling. He loved spending time with his family and grandkids and telling his “hilarious” jokes. No one thought he was funnier, than himself. His family loved his sense of humor and will miss him dearly. The neighborhood will miss the “fix-it” all man. He was a skilled repair man, and loved to restore bikes and machines to top condition. He hadn’t met a bike, snowblower or lawn mower he couldn’t fix.
With his sweetheart Cindy, they enjoyed a deep love for music and attending concerts and symphonies, going to Hale Theater, movies, out to dinner, riding bikes together and especially competing together at the Senior Games in St. George, winning many Gold, Silver, Bronze medals and Ribbons for 20 years!!!
He also competed in LOTOJA over 15 times and was proud to have completed it multiple times with Cindy as his trusty support.
Randy was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served in many callings over the years with the youth and as the ward clerk. He has a deep Testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ. His family was blessed and strengthened by his sharing of his Testimony during worshiping in our Home. Those memories will not be forgotten.
Randy is survived by his wife Cindy: children, Sara (Brian), Steven, (Stacey), Grandchildren, Zackery, Addisyn, Katelyn, Lauren, Camryn and Blake and his Loving Sister, Lynn Nelson (Randy). He is preceded in death by his Parents, Sister Leanne and Son Matthew.
The family would like to thank the Sandy City, P.D. and Firefighters/Paramedics for their quick response and valiant and tireless efforts doing all they could to help Randy.
The family would also like to thank the wonderful neighbors and friends for the outpouring of love, support and service they have offered now and always.
