Phillip Lee Glenn, our beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather, great grandfather, and uncle, of Cottonwood Heights, Utah, (79) passed away unexpectedly on February 23, 2025.
Phil was born on September 21, 1945 in Logan, Utah, to Marshall Weston and Reba Brown McBride. He was the second of four children. He loved his two brothers and cherished his dear sister.
Phil graduated from Orem High School (1963) in Orem, Utah, and Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah (BS in International Business with minor in French) (1970). He served as a missionary in the France East mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. While at BYU he met the love of his life, Cheryl Lee Aiken. They were married on June 26, 1968 in the Logan, Utah temple. They have three children, Sean, Damon, Cortney.
After their wedding, Phil and Cheryl moved to Salt Lake City where Phil attended graduate school at the University of Utah, receiving a master’s degree in public administration. During this time, he served for seven years in the Army Reserves. Phil then spent his career serving his community and state in a variety of leadership positions – three of his favorites were with Salt Lake City government administration, as Human Resources Director for Parkwest Ski Resort, and Executive Director of Sandy City Council from which he retired. He loved his friends and co-workers with Sandy City. The relationships he created at Sandy City positively affected many and continue to this day. While with Sandy City, Phil led a successful campaign to change highway advertising to reduce sign clutter on highways, resulting in innovative changes in highway signage. Phil’s time with Parkwest was particularly cherished because through Parkwest he was able to share his love of skiing with his sons.
Phil lived the two great commandments. He loved God and his fellow man. He was always one of the first to help one in need, whether it was as a welfare missionary in downtown Salt Lake, teaching English to Hispanic communities, or simply spending time with someone in sincere conversation. He spent his life wanting everyone around him to know they were important and valued. He served in his church throughout his life. He was loved as a gospel doctrine teacher, young men’s leader, elder’s quorum president, and high councilor.
He loved the outdoors and spent much of his life instilling in his sons and grandchildren a deep love for God’s great earth. He built his family and their love for each other through time together on a lake, in the mountains, on a ski slope, hunting and fishing in the mountains, on the golf course, and traversing national and state parks.
He is survived by his wife, Cheryl Lee Aiken; son, Sean (Anna); son, Damon (Catherine); son, Cort (Josie); brother, C. Joseph; sister-in-law Yvonne; brother-in-law Les; 12 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Marshall Weston and Reba Brown McBride; and brother Lowell; and sister Kathryn.
