Nancy Lancaster Boyer (71), beloved wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, and sister, returned to her heavenly home on September 2, 2021 in Salt Lake County, Utah.
Nancy was born in Salt Lake City on April 3, 1950 to Roy Bryant Lancaster Jr. and Ida Arvella “Mitzie” Jaynes. As a youth, she enjoyed playing tennis and singing with the Mormon Youth Chorus. She also loved to play ping pong and other games with her dad. She graduated from South High School, where she sang in the A Cappella Choir and accompanied several musicals on the piano. She graduated from the University of Utah with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Education in 1972. Nancy remained an avid Utah Utes fan throughout her life and made a point to never miss a game she could watch on television. After graduating from college, Nancy taught music to junior high students before she “ran away to get married” (as he lovingly says) to her eternal sweetheart, Ira Russell Boyer.
Nancy and Ira married on January 5, 1973 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They are the parents of four children: Heidi, Russell Mack, Michelle, and Steven Bryant. Throughout her life, her highest priority was her family and her greatest joy was her children and grandchildren. Her family appreciates that she was a wonderful cook, a talented musician, an accomplished organist, and a selfless piano teacher. She was a devoted mother who was heavily involved in her children’s education and a tireless PTA president. A lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Nancy served in many callings through her life. A few of her favorites were organist, Primary pianist, and Relief Society president.
Nancy is survived by her husband, Ira Russell Boyer, and children Heidi Jensen (Steve), Russell Boyer (Whitney), Michelle Boyer, and Steven Boyer; five much-loved grandchildren Laney, Madison, Breanna, Hope, and Mack; her mother, Mitzie; and siblings Marilyn, Bryant, and Annette. She was preceded in death by her father, Roy Jr., and brother, Roy Lancaster III. She will truly be missed.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, September 9, 2021 at 12:00 noon at the Butler West LDS Stake Center at 1845 East 7200 South, Cottonwood Heights, Utah. The family will greet friends and loved ones at a viewing on Wednesday, September 8, 2021 from 6:00-8:00 p.m., also at the Stake Center, and prior to the memorial service from 11:00-11:45 a.m. Interment and dedication of the grave will follow at Memorial Estates located at 3115 East 7800 South, Cottonwood Heights, Utah.
