Maureen Robinson Madrian

Our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend passed away the afternoon of July 16, 2011, from complications related to MDS.

Maureen was born in Salt Lake City on November 18, 1939, to Heber Oliver Robinson and DeVora Francis Parkin. She was a loving, devoted daughter who often spoke about happy childhood memories of growing up on Salt Lake City’s West Side.

Upon graduating from West High School in 1958, Maureen attended comptometer school in Salt Lake City and worked for several years at Zion’s First National Bank. Maureen loved music and taught piano in her home for over 20 years. Later in her life, she fulfilled a dream of becoming a nurse, completing a program at SLCC to become an LPN and then working for several years in a senior care center.

On November 17, 1961, Maureen married Jost E. Madrian in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. For nearly 50 years, they built a life and a home together which was centered on their 5 children and 20 grandchildren. Maureen loved her family and always happily put them first. For many years, Maureen held an annual summer camp at her home for her grandchildren, a special tradition that strengthened the bonds of her family.

She loved to cook and prepared many wonderful meals and treats for family and friends. She was also an avid gardener, craft hobbyist, and musician. Maureen loved music and found great joy playing the piano and organ. She enjoyed traveling with her husband, often visiting her children living in distant locations and taking cruises in later years. Maureen honored her pioneer heritage as a member of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers, as well as through her work ethic. She had a great love for family history and left behind a treasured collection of journals and photo albums.

Maureen was a member of the LDS church and served diligently throughout her lifetime in the Relief Society and Young Women’s organizations, as well as an organist. Together with her husband, she served a church service mission in Central Salt Lake City. Her greatest service was to her family and the countless lives she touched through her acts of simple, devoted service.

Maureen leaves behind a great legacy of faith and family. She is survived by her husband, Jost, children David (Brigitte), Mark (Laura), Heidi (Kim) Craft, James (Jennifer), and Jennifer (Dale) Christensen, 20 grandchildren; sisters, Mary (Gary) Vaughan and Joanne Tauferner. She is preceded in death by her parents.

Funeral services will be held Friday, July 22 at 11 a.m. at the Brighton 6 ^th Ward, 2925 E. Bengal Blvd (7800 South). Friends may call at the Cannon Mortuary, 2460 E. Bengal Blvd. Thursday from 6-8 p.m. as well as from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. prior to the services. Interment Salt Lake City Cemetery.
