Marvin Thomas Emery, loving Father, grandfather, uncle, cousin and friend, passed away on June 5, 2023 at the age of 86. He passed peacefully in his sleep at home in his assisted living center, legacy house of Park lane, in the presence of his daughter and granddaughter.
Marvin was born in SLC, UT on March 29, 1937 to Philis Wheadon Emery and Tomas Lutz Emery. He married Lynnae Frances Ostler in the Salt Lake City Temple and is loving father to his four children Marvin Jr, Evan, David and Melanie. He is grandfather to 8 and great grandfather to 7 and ½
He is preceded in death by his wife Lynnae Frances Emery, his parents, his oldest son and Sunny the bird. He had a deep love of nature and enjoyed camping hiking and fishing. He spent as much time as possible in the mountains and shared his love of the great outdoors with his family and friends.
Marvin worked in sales most of his life selling electrical supplies and eventually owned a small carpet cleaning business. He served in the national guard as a chef and always loved to cook. He was known as a gentle giant and was well known for his physical strength. Standing at 6ft 5 inches tall, he always used that strength for good, serving his family and his community.
Marvin was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served in nearly every position in various wards and stakes throughout his life. He always said that his favorite calling was being a branch president in an assisted living center. He had a heart of gold. He was a man of deep and abiding faith, the kind of faith that produces unconditional love, hope and charity. He was inclusive and generous, everyone was always welcome, there was always room for one more at his table. He was a man of integrity who didn’t speak a lot but when he did everyone listened.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday June 14, 2023 at Cannon Mortuary. 2460 East Bengal Blvd. (7600 South) there will be a viewing/visitation from 5 to 6pm and the service will follow directly after. There will be an open mic for anyone to share a favorite story or experience during the service.
