MARJORIE JONES GIBBONS
09/10/1934 – 11/17/2012
Margie is an amazing person, more giving, more forgiving, and more reaching out that anyone in the world. She was born in California. When she was three, her parents, Alvin Hansen and Lucille Manson were killed in a car accident. Margie was thrown free & was not injured. Margie was adopted by Mearle and Lorna Jones in Provo and was raised in the most loving atmosphere. After high school she attended BYU and graduated in 1956 in the first class of the BYU School of Nursing. Mom Jones was truly a mother to the entire class who often appeared over four years one or all at the same time for comfort, love, fun & food. Lorna Jones was a remarkable mother to the whole bunch.
The hospital training for this class was at the LDS Hospital in SLC, Utah. The first Sunday they went to the U of U institute (to meet boys), they sat in front of a few medical students who were there for a similar reason (to meet girls). One of them being Harry Gibbons. The story of the next few years is amazing. They were married in the Logan Temple. Harry has so often said it was the best thing that every happened to him, and EVERYONE who knows Margie agrees.
They have raised a combination of adopted and home-made children. Margie has looked forward to being together again with Bonnie who passed away in TX at 18 months of age.
Margie is survived by Harry & their children, Scott, Mark, Meri (Mark), Jon (Dana), and Larry (Kamie) and the most amazing 10 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
Margie was a far ranging RS President in Norman, OK, a phenomenal Stake RS President in Draper, and was really outstanding in many other services for the LDS Church and the community as an election judge.
Marge & Harry served a mission, living in Germany, responding to medical problems in over 40 missions from Portugal to Siberia. For approximately 4 year they served in the Friendship Mission, driving a van between the airport and Temple Square for visitors with a layover.
Margie deeply loves the Gospel of Jesus Christ, the scriptures, the temples, Primary, Harry and her family. Her life was taken by liver cancer, but she did not conduct the valiant fight often described by others, but turned the matter over to her Father-in-Heaven. She survived many months beyond expectations.
Margie loves flower, but anytime Harry would bring her any, she would immediately think of someone who needed them more and give them away. She requests that any donations go to Humanitarian Services of the LDS Church serving nations throughout the world.
Margie’s graduation will take place at the Cottonwood Stake Center, 1830 East 6400 South at 11:00 a.m., Sat. Nov.24, 2012. There will be visiting from 6-8 pm on Friday evening, Nov, 23rd at the Cannon Mortuary, 2460 E. Bengal Blvd. and at the Stake Center from 10:00 to 10:45 am. Interment Logan City Cemetery
