Our dear mother, grandmother and friend, Lois N. Janke left this mortal life on October 17, 2013, freed from a long affliction with Alzheimer’s to be reunited with those who have passed on before. Born August 2, 1924 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Mary Alida Wright and Niels Rasmus Nielsen. She was the sixth of eight children. She married Leland Eric Janke August 7, 1945 in Salt Lake City, Utah (later divorced) and was a devoted mother to her three children.
Lois graduated from the University of Utah with a degree in Education and Music and was an active member of the Alpha Chi Omega sorority. She taught at Hawthorne Elementary, was an avid reader, tennis player and active member of the Daughter of the Utah Pioneers.
A gifted pianist, Lois willingly shared her talents professionally accompanying vocalists, musicians and choirs. She blessed countless lives with her musical talent.
A faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Lois served in many callings including Relief Society President and fulfilled a senior-mission to the Atlanta, Georgia Temple (Spanish speaking).
As a beloved matriarch, Lois was always interested in her family and planned many memorable holiday celebrations. We’ll cherish memories of her at the piano while we all sang.
She is survived by her two sons: Lane E. Janke (Janet), Mark L. Janke (Annie), and her daughter, Jill Ostler (Gordon), 13 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren. Preceded in death by her parents, siblings and a granddaughter, Talese Turner. A heartfelt thanks to CareSource Hospice.
