Lloyd Irwin Tanner lost his valiant battle to the physical ailments that consumed his body the past few years. He was born on August 24, 1938 in Salt Lake City to Geraldine Young and Hugh Henry Tanner.
He graduated from South High School and the University of Utah. He served an LDS mission to the North Central States and worked at US West for 30 years where he became a Director of Regulatory Affairs.
He married Shirley Friel on July 21, 1961 in the Salt Lake Temple. Lloyd was a faithful and devoted member of the LDS Church and served in many capacities, but his favorite was teaching the gospel. He was an avid reader of Church History and loved discussions with many of his friends.
Lloyd loved his family and took special pride in their accomplishments. He enjoyed playing tennis, golf, skiing and family vacations to Sun Valley and Hawaii. He was a loyal fan of Utah sporting events, but watching his children and grandchildren compete was his favorite pastime. He was affectionately known as "Papa",
Lloyd is survived by his loving wife of 52 years Shirley, his children Jeff (Gretchen), Megan (Bill) Burraston and his grandchildren Ashley Tanner, Emily Tanner, Tyler Burraston, Blake Burraston, his brother Hugh B.
