Lee Shamy Daniels
1924 – 2015
Lee Shamy Daniels, our “Sito,” died unexpectedly on March 5, 2015. Unexpectedly, because despite being 90 years old, she was still actively engaged and interested in her life and the lives of her children and grandchildren. Lee was born August 10, 1924 to Lebanese immigrants, Charles and Delia Shamy and grew up in the family home on Bryan Avenue in Salt Lake City with her six siblings, Fred, Lilly, Annie, John, Joe and Frank. Shortly after graduating from South High School in 1941, Lee met and fell in love with a handsome US Army Air Force officer, Lawrence Daniels before he was shipped off to war. After Dan returned from the war in Europe, Lee joined Dan in various assignments to air bases throughout the United States and Japan. During these travels, Shauna, Greg and Scott joined the family. Lee thrived in her role as a mother and an officer’s wife, was very active in base auxiliaries and excelled in bowling and golf tournaments. After divorcing Dan, Lee moved to Arizona and later returned to Salt Lake City with her children. She spent 15 years working at KUTV and KSL TV scheduling national advertisements. Her family will remember the many favorite Lebanese dishes she prepared for Sunday dinners and special occasions.
Lee is survived by her children, Shauna Williams (Mark), Greg Daniels (Kate), Scott, 16 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and her brothers John Shamy (Nancy) and Joe Shamy (Carol).
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 14, 2015 12:00 p.m. at the Cannon Mortuary, 2460 E. Bengal Blvd. (7600 S.) with a visitation the day of the service from 10:45–11:45 a.m. Interment Elysian Burial Gardens.
