Kiyo Mori Tashiro

Kiyo Mori Tashiro of Cottonwood Heights, passed away on Thursday August 18th, 2011 at the age of 93, of natural causes, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born August 15, 1918 to Tsunetaro Mori and Tsune Yano Mori in Delta, Utah. After Kiyo met and married Akira Korky Tashiro she opened a beauty shop in Salt Lake City. After World War II Kiyo and Korky worked on the family farm in what is now Cottonwood Heights, Utah. After Korky’s passing she raised her family and then worked at Brighton High School in the Jordan School District from which she retired.
Kiyo was a very devoted, loving and caring Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother. She spent many hours playing baseball, shining shoes, washing bicycles with her kids and grand kids. She also attended all of their sporting events. She loved having her grandchildren and great grandchildren visit. She loved to cook and knew all of their favorite meals; it was almost impossible to leave her home without being fed a great meal.
Kiyo was known for growing the most beautiful multi-colored waist high poppies. Artists and photographers often frequented her garden.
Kiyo is survived by her daughters Connie Reece (Mike) of Cottonwood Heights and Dixie Ross (Steve) of Evanston, Wyoming and one sister Michie Shiotani of Sandy. Five grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband Akira Korky Tashiro, daughter Nancy Tashiro, brother Don K. Mori and sisters Kazu Mori, Y. Mitsunaga and Fujie Yamagata.
For the past 4 ½ years she has resided at Sandy Health and Rehab where she won the hearts of residents and staff members. The family would like to thank everyone at Sandy Health and Rehab for the loving care and support given to her, especially during the last month of her life.
Services will be held at Cannon Mortuary, 2460 E. Bengal Blvd (7600 S.), Cottonwood Heights, Tuesday August 23, 2011 at 11:00 A.M. A viewing will be held one hour prior to the service. Internment will be at the Salt Lake City Cemetery.
