Karen Lynn Judy Barker, affectionately known as “Mema” to her family, passed away peacefully at home on December 28, 2024. She was born in Pocatello, Idaho on April 21, 1945 to Mark Lynn and Mary June Judy. Lynn had an adventurous childhood growing up in Idaho, Montana, California and Utah and developed a great love of nature and the outdoors. During her youth, she spent many summers at Camp Tracy where her father was a scout executive. It was here that she met and developed a friendship with a young Richard Barker who was part of the staff at Camp Tracy. Their friendship eventually led to marriage. She attended both Jordan and Hillcrest High Schools. During her high school years, she participated in cheerleading and dance club. She was a proud member of the first graduating class of HIllcrest High School in 1963.
After high school, she studied cosmetology and graduated from The Continental College of Beauty in Salt Lake City, Utah. She began her career as a cosmetologist soon after and had a successful 60 year career working at salons in her home and at Hair Today in Holladay, Utah. She had a deep love and appreciation for her “ladies.”
She married her best friend and love, Richard Barker, on October 7, 1965 in the Salt Lake temple. They had three sons, Rick, Brett and Rand. Lynn loved being a mom to her three boys and survived endless years of teasing. Together with Rich they provided a childhood full of fun, laughter and love.
Lynn loved to cook, entertain and garden with her family. She was a talented artist and decorator and had a flair for making parties special. She made everyone feel loved and important.
Lynn was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served diligently as a leader in many callings. She especially enjoyed serving the youth and primary children. She was an amazing example to many.
Lynn loved her family and found immense joy in spending time with them. As the oldest of nine children she enjoyed gathering her family together. She considered her friends to be part of her family as well. She is survived by her three sons, Rick (Kristin), Brett (Kim), and Rand (Stacee), fifteen grandchildren and five great grandchildren with another one on her way.
