Judith Anne (Judy) Sadler Hakanson, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and sister, passed away on Mother’s Day, Sunday, May 12, 2024. She was 81 years old. Judy was born on December 27, 1942, to Gene and Dorene Sadler. As the oldest of 12 children, she learned at a very young age how to care for her younger brothers and sisters. This early responsibility began a lifelong journey for her in nurturing and caring for children.
Judy began her career in child development and quickly became passionate about it. She was affectionately referred to as Miss Judy by countless children under her care. Many even saw her as a grandmother figure. Judy had a remarkable talent for telling make-believe stories that captivated the attention of all the children whose lives she touched. Additionally, she wrote and produced several childhood plays that were performed in various elementary schools.
The day of her passing, Mother’s Day, was beautifully symbolic as Judy truly was a mother to so many. We are certain it was a joyful day on the other side of the veil as she reunited with her lovely mother once again.
Happy Heavenly Mother’s Day, Mom, we will miss you.
Judy was a faithful and devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Throughout her adult life, she served in many church callings, helping children and youth to develop socially and to know our Savior Jesus Christ. Judy married Charles H. Nielsen in June 1961 and they later divorced. They were blessed with five children. Judy later married Garry Hakanson on December 24, 1987, who joined her in her quest to provide proper care and service to children.
Judy is survived by her husband, Garry; her children, Hollee (Larry) King, Lisa (Jack) Ryser, Sindee Nielsen, Laura (Chris) Cameron, and David (Erin) Nielsen; grandchildren Laycee, Bobbie, Chantel, Danyl, Tiffany, Tyler, Kailee, Addison, Cynthia, Samuel, Makenzie, Alexia, Skyler, Madison, Coda, Noah, and Nox; great-grandchildren Trinitee, Adaleena, Tristen, Lydia, Leo, Mckillan, Rowen, Mayzie, and Saylor; sisters Barbara, Annette, and Lorie; and brothers Lon (Pat), Les (Sally), Guy, Gary (Peggy), Bob, Mark (Penny), and Don (Cathy). She was preceded in death by her parents, Gene and Dorene; brother Kay; granddaughter McKenzie; and son-in-law Larry King.
