Judith Fotheringham Emery, 84, passed away peacefully at home on March 9, 2025. Judy was born on March 22, 1940 to her loving parents, Orin LaVaun Fotheringham and Dora Zugel Fotheringham. She was the oldest of four children to Dora and Vaun. She spent her childhood years in Murray, Utah, where she had fond memories of working in her father’s store, sledding down the best hill in Murray, and playing kickball at school. Every year, her family enjoyed a vacation to Yellowstone National Park. She has fond memories of her dad making a bed in the backseat for her and her sisters to play on during their long drives to Yellowstone.

Judy was vivacious, loved people, and was active in student government at Olympus High School, serving as secretary, sophomore class officer, and student council member. As a senior in high school, she met Jack Emery, who had recently returned from his mission in the Central States. A year later, in March 1959, Jack and Judy were married in the Salt Lake Temple. They had two daughters and two sons: Alicyn, Derek, Melinda, and Jake.

Judy was a great leader. Throughout her life, she served as Relief Society President, Young Women’s President, PTA President, and Symphony Guild President. She was also deeply involved in her community, teaching girls at the detention center, serving as a hostess at the Beehive House, and working as a guide at the Joseph Smith Memorial Building. She had a strong love for the gospel of Jesus Christ and for her family.

Judy provided her children with many opportunities, exposing them to theater, art, crafts, gardening, dance, music, and sports. She herself was a talented gardener, flower arranger, seamstress, and watercolor artist. Her family enjoyed time together boating and camping at Lake Powell along with close neighbors and friends. Judy loved people and kept in touch with friends from high school and from the different places they lived throughout her life.

Judy is survived by her children: Alicyn Wright (Camron), Derek Emery (Patti), Melinda Jennings (Jody), and Jacob Emery (Sarah); 13 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; her sisters, Karen Peterson and Nancy George; and her brother, Scott Fotheringham. Judy was a devoted mother, grandmother, and friend.
