Funeral Recording
John David Stover, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend passed away on April 28th, 2022, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Born on March 31st, 1962, to Herman Stover and Dorothy Proctor Stover, John was an adventurer from the start and, ironically, very tidy, with a room that was always in order and an impeccable style that he carried throughout his life.
John found someone to wrangle his adventurous spirit in Gloria Smith. John married Gloria on September 29th, 1988, in Brighton, Utah, combining their two growing families. They were later sealed in the temple on October 10th, 2015. John and Gloria were a powerful and inseparable team, and their home was filled with joy, love, American flags, pictures of Christ, and NASCAR.
John was born to sell, and spent much of his career in sales, where he not only solved many people’s, problems using his outgoing and personable nature, but where he also touched their lives with laughter and kindness. His dedication and strong work ethic carried over to his responsibilities in the church, where he faithfully served in callings, in the temple, and in many ways that weren’t official, like checking up on those who were struggling and removing snow from the back of his four-wheeler.
When he wasn’t working, you’d likely find John outside, tinkering with his motorcycle or truck, working on the lawn, or playing with his grandchildren with his sunglasses and hat on, and a Mountain Dew Kickstart in his hand. He found peace in taking rides. The rumble of John’s motorcycle or his F-350 was the sign to all his family, and to two excited dogs, that John was home.
One of John’s mottos was that we “work to play.” And he lived that. Whether shredding jet skis across Bear Lake, fishing and camping at Hoop Lake, walking on a California beach, cheering at Jazz games, or braving the most intimidating rides at the State Fair, John made the most of every moment in his life, and inspired those around him to do the same.
John is survived by his wife, Gloria, his sons, Luke and Ryan, his daughters, Lacey, Ashley, Candice, and Tricia, as well as his brother, Mike, sisters Carol and Rebecca, fourteen beautiful grandchildren, and two loyal German Shepherds, Sundance and Kane.
