John Shields

John Shields was born on May 27, 1949 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Fern Alburn Shields and Ruth Fox Clawson Shields. Our loving husband, father, grandfather left this life on September 22, 2022 during a brief hospital stay at the age of 73. Many of you are aware that he had his first cardiac arrest on January 1, 2008 and was revived by his wife. He had open heart surgery which gave him an additional 14 years to make new dreams and more memories. He was always busy working on his cars and he loved working on his small farm where he raised horses and chickens. His Great Danes usually tagged along to help him.

John married Karen Palmer Shields on December 16, 1970 after returning from Vietnam. They spent 51 wonderful and adventurous years together. He believed that his service in the Army contributed to his life experiences in a good way. He loved working on the Cobra helicopters and riding in them once in a while was real fun.
John opened his car repair business in 1976 and worked hard at it for 39 years until his heart condition caused him to retire to a simpler work life.

John is survived by his wife Karen, his two sons Mark Shields and Chad (Cassandra) Shields, his brothers and sisters: Ruthann Waldoch, W Donald (Ginny) Shields, Mary Ellen (John) Elggren, Robert (Kathy) Shields, Michael Shields and his six grandchildren.

John’s interment will be at the Utah Veterans Cemetery & Memorial Park in Bluffdale. Private celebrations of his amazing life will be happening soon.
