Joann DuPaix Payzant

1940 - 2014

Joann passed away on March 26, 2014 at home after a long fight with heart and lung failure.  She was born on April 4, 1940 in Moab, Utah, and adopted at a young age by Arthur and Lena DuPaix.  She attended East High in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Joann married Jerry Eaton of Blythe, CA, and had three children, Lendal, Darcie and Bendilyn.  Later divorced.  She married Cliff Payzant on October 19, 1973 and helped raise Cliff’s four boys, Brett, Mark, Nick and Tony.

Joann loved to iron clothes for people, and had a select group of about eight; she’d wake up at 3:00 in the morning and iron until time to go to work.  Joann was an avid bowler and held a high average.  She was a real “people person” who was very caring; she would do anything to help others and was loved in return by everybody she met.  She loved working in retail.  She worked for Lerner Shops in Fashion Place Mall as an assistant manager.  She moved on to Anita Stores and was selected to open the Anita Store in the new Orem Mall as manager.  After driving to Orem every day, year round, she resigned in favor of working closer to home.  After trying different jobs, she began working at Rite-Aid and worked there for approximately 20 years until her health problems forced her to retire.

Joann and Cliff loved to travel to California by way of Mesquite, NV, Las Vegas, NV, Searchlight, NV, Laughlin, NV, Lake Havasu, AZ and any place that had a slot machine!  She loved the trips with four other families and kids to Alpine, WY, staying in a cabin and snowmobiling, and traveling to Mesquite, NV in March for our annual golf outing with ten other couples.

Joann is survived by husband, Cliff, sons Mark (Kasey), Nick (Christina), Tony (Christine); 10 grandchildren, one great-grandson, and one little white bird named TITAN, who was constantly by her side, on her lap or shoulder, and on top of the oxygen concentrator.

Joann is preceded in death by her parents, brothers Ronald DuPaix, Donald (Janice) Hamilton, sister Louise Brandly, son Lendal Eaton and Brett Payzant.  The Payzant family would like to thank the staff at Intermountain Medical Center for their care of Joann these last few months.
