Our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, peacefully returned home to her Heavenly Father on February 20, 2023, surrounded by family.

Joan Ruth Brimhall was born on October 7, 1935 in Salt Lake City, Utah. She was the only child born to Alma Vero Brimhall and Ruth Florida Backlund, she was their pride and joy, finally arriving after 11 years of marriage. Her childhood was filled with many happy memories and adventures with her cousins who lived close by, along with her many friends, whom she stayed in contact with all her life. She loved fishing with her dad and even found the worms, baited the hooks, caught the fish and cleaned them. She loved tap dancing and spending time with her grandmother Backlund whom she loved very much.
Joan married Sherman L. Record in the Salt Lake Temple on March 12, 1954 and they were blessed with four children: Wendy Ruth, Michelle, Keri Lee and Geoffrey Darren. She was extremely proud of her children and grandchildren and was an incredibly devoted wife and mother. Her family and her sweetheart were her greatest joys in life. Joan and Sherman were very devoted to each other and stood by each other during many hard trials over their 64 years together. Sherman has been a loving, loyal caretaker to Joan during the recent years of her declining health.

Joan was a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and she served faithfully in leadership callings, teaching the youth and she especially loved being a compassionate service visitor leader for over 10 yrs.

Joan always enjoyed working part-time and was an exceptionally talented secretary. She mastered the manual typewriter, typing near 80 wpm and 120 wpm on the electric. She was an accomplished pianist and played for the primary and Sunday school, and the organ for sacrament meeting throughout much of her teenage years.

Joan was a gifted geneologist and scrapbooker and compiled over 40 scrapbooks about her family and historical events. She made a scrapbook for each of her parents and parents-in-law, each grandparent, each of her children, and her own and Sherm's life history along with many of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In 2005 Deseret News caught wind of her scrapbooking and record keeping talent and printed a six-column story about her in the Deseret Newspaper "Wasatchlife" section. The newspaper article was titled "Record keeps Records".

Joan's faith in God was strong and brought her peace and strength during difficult times along with a very strong testimony of prayer.

Joan is survived by her husband Sherman, three of her children: Michelle Record Shepherd, Keri Record Curtis and Geoff Record; 8 grandchildren and 18 great- grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her oldest daughter Wendy Ruth Record McQueen.

Special thanks goes out to Dignity Hospice and their nurses and caregivers. They were angels sent to us at a very difficult time.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 24, 2023 at 12pm at the LDS Springview Ward Chapel, 3151 South 900 East, Salt Lake City, Utah. A viewing will be held prior to the funeral at 11:00 AM. Interment will be at the Murray Cemetery.
We are grateful for the loving care and exceptional service offered to our family by Cannon Mortuary.
