Jeffrey Spencer Hansen
1962 - 2017
Jeffrey Spencer Hansen was born to parents Que Spencer and Lynda Kay Hansen in St. Anthony, Idaho on December 29, 1962. He passed away on May 16, 2017 at the age of 54. Jeff excelled in school and as a member of his High School golf team. He served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Seville, Spain. He attended UCLA and Brigham Young University and graduated from BYU with a Bachelor's Degree in Economics. He was a creative entrepreneur in his business career. In 1990, he helped launch New Century Management Company, a third party administrative company that offered fully insured health plans to small businesses in Southern California. In 1994, he was hired by Vanderbilt University to help create and launch a statewide fully insured health plan to businesses in the State of Tennessee. He eventually left Tennessee and returned to Salt Lake City where he and his business partner, Mark Selman, established Utah’s first and only physician owned Preferred Provider Organization which continues to function today. In 2001, he and two business partners initiated the creation of Tall Tree Administrators, a Third-Party Administrator firm offering partially self-funded health insurance coverage to large employers. He eventually sold his interest in Tall Tree Administrators and started his own Insurance Brokerage. He has enjoyed a successful career in the health insurance industry where he founded several successful companies. He will be missed both by his loved ones, his friends, and all those he worked with throughout his career.
Jeff brought a sense of humor and lightheartedness into the lives of those he loved. He loved his two dogs, Charlie and Max, dearly. But most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his five daughters, either planting flowers and tomatoes, watching SpongeBob SquarePants, and doing arts and crafts. He also enjoyed traveling to Europe with his wife, exploring southern Utah, and golfing and skiing with his brothers. Jeff always said that in life we have to choose how we want to live. His advice was: “Choose happy buddy.”
He leaves behind his parents, Que and Lynda Hansen; his sister Julie Ann (Sean) Segal; two brothers Mitchell and William (Alex); his loving wife, Amy; his five daughters: Megan, Jessie, Julie, Paige, and Olivia and his grandson William. Along with many nephews and nieces, uncles and aunts who also love him very much.
