Funeral Recording
Janie Robinson LeRoy, wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, unexpectedly passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by family on January 6, 2019, due to complications from a genetic heart arrhythmia. She was born on April 28, 1944 and grew up in Rifle, Colorado. As the eldest of 8 children, she was a big help to her mother in raising her siblings. She loved her childhood and herding sheep on the mountain slopes of Western Colorado with her father. She loved riding horses, spending the summers at sheep camp, and everything about being a rancher’s daughter. She was very proud of her heritage. Janie shared a special bond with all of her cousins because they spent so much of their youth together. She loved being active and experiencing life to the fullest. During her high school years, she was a talented cheerleader and enjoyed being involved in everything. She always made sure others were included, was a loyal and enduring friend, and admired by all who knew her.
Janie loved life and exploring new horizons. She attended Brigham Young University where she eventually met the love of her life, Daniel Claude LeRoy in a ski instructor class, which was part of her recreation management degree. They were married on May 25, 1973 and moved to Colorado for a few years before settling into their current home in Cottonwood Heights, Utah. The mountain setting in her backyard reminded her of her childhood and she deemed it the perfect place to raise their five children. They were sealed as a family in the Jordan River Temple and established a faith-filled home centered in Christ. She went through life with her best friend and made friends all along the way.
A devoted mother, her children were the center of her life. She taught her family about the Savior and His Infinite Atonement and loved them unconditionally. She would sacrifice anything for her family. She led by example, teaching faith, obedience, and service. She exemplified charity throughout her life and always stayed engaged with her family. Janie loved the great outdoors and valued the time they were able to spend together as a family, skiing, hiking, camping and going to Lake Powell. She also treasured the time she spent with her children exploring the world. Sports was an important part of life in the LeRoy home. Janie and Dan would go anywhere to be able to watch their children and grandchildren compete in sporting events and rarely missed a game, no matter the distance.
Her health and that of her family was of utmost importance to her. She was rarely sick, never had a headache and lived a vibrant life until the day she was called back home. She had a thirst for knowledge and was an avid reader of all things dealing with her family’s spiritual and physical well-being. She valued friendship both old and new and made an effort to stay connected with everyone she knew.
Janie was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She served in many capacities throughout her life within the Relief Society and Young Women’s organizations. She and Dan served several missions including Construction Specialists for Visitor’s Centers and Historic Sites in Palmyra, Los Angeles, and San Diego and as a senior couple in the Salt Lake City East Mission. She was given the hard tasks because she was known for getting the job done. At the time of passing she was serving as a Salt Lake Temple Ordinance Worker, Family History Consultant and Sunday School Teacher with her husband in the branch at the Salt Lake County Jail. She was involved in the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers and was serving as Captain of the Little Willow Camp. In addition to her church service, she was politically active and highly involved in her community.
Her whole life was devoted in serving others and she will be lovingly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Robb and Geneil Robinson, and her grandsons, Jake Robb LeRoy and Logan Thomas LeRoy. She is survived by her husband, Dan and five children: Robin (Reid) Cecil, Joel (Jacque) LeRoy, Brandon (Andrea) LeRoy, Cory (Shanna) LeRoy, and Amber (Brad) Harris and 18 grandchildren: Janessa, Monique, Tyler, Kate, Jane, Cole, Kesley, Emma, Brock, Hannah, Rhett, Gwen, Truman, Reese, Lydia, Perri, Danielle and Vivian.
