Jana Lea Hamling passed away, at age 59, on June 5, 2019 after a brief but courageous battle with lung cancer. Jana was born in Calgary, Alberta, Canada on September 1, 1959. She was a beloved daughter, sister, wife, and aunt.
Jana’s childhood was spent living in Australia, Toronto, and Salt Lake City. She graduated from Cottonwood High School in 1978. She also studied at Utah State University and Brigham Young University. She trained and was certified as a surgical technician and loved her time working at St. Mark’s Hospital. She was a natural at caring for others and spent many years working as a caregiver.
On September 9, 1989 she married Rob Acevedo and they settled in the Millcreek area of Salt Lake County. Jana's talents and interests included knitting, crocheting, quilting, canning, and gardening. She loved animals and treasured her cats. Her laugh was infectious. She made everyone feel like they were interesting and funny. She loved deeply, served continually and touched people’s hearts everywhere she went. Jana was always your personal cheerleader. No matter what you were facing, she was always there backing you up. She was an important part of her nieces’ and nephews’ lives.
She is preceded in death by mother Merlene Roberts Hamling, nephew Timothy Hamling and step-brother Alan Moir. She is survived by her parents Don and Nancy Hamling; sister Tamra and her husband Rod Baker; brother Jon Hamling; brother Michael Hamling and his wife Jeanne. Also missing Jana are her nephew Weston Baker and his wife Crystle and their children Cole and Cailee; niece Shalisa and her husband Barry Thornburg and their children Theodore and Montgomery; niece Kari and her husband Marty Bandy; niece Melanie Baker, niece Jayden and her husband Dhylan Meyer, nephew Seth Hamling, nephew Luke Hamling, niece Lily Hamling and husband Rob Acevedo. Jana's passing has left a big hole in our hearts and our lives. She was greatly loved by her family and she loved her siblings and their children and grandchildren.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday June 29th at 2:00 p.m. at the Sandy Granite Stake Center, 2535 E. Newcastle Dr. (8890 S.)
