Ray departed this world for parts unknown on Saturday, August 20th, 2022 surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Salt Lake City, Ut on 12/7/1936 to James Patrick Meik Jr. and Kathryn Gerstner Meik.
Ray attended Olympus High and graduated from the University of Utah with a Bachelor of Fine Arts and a Masters degree in Special Education.
He spent many years teaching art and special education in the Salt Lake City school district, Jordan Jr, West High, Highland High, Hillside Jr. Ray’s skills as a generous and enthusiastic educator touched the lives of many students.
Ray also spent many years working part time at Zinik’s Sporting Goods, Sunset, Herman’s and Allied where he was known as a top salesman in the field. Ray was a master storyteller and had a story for any (and every) occasion. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping at the family’s property in Argyle Canyon.
He married his sweetheart Sharon Sims in July 1958 and they recently celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary.
Ray is survived and will be missed dearly, by his wife Sharon, three sons, Jeff (Brett), Shawn (Brooke) and Derek, two grandchildren, Theron (Kelsey) and Shandy and two great grandchildren, brothers Jerry (Kathleen), Richard (Suzanne) and sister Kathy (Reed) Cardoza.
A private family celebration of Ray’s life will be held at a later date.
