Irene Stoof Pearmain, affectionately known as “Renie,” our angel mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, concluded her final act of love and service on this earthly stage on April 10, 2025. Surrounded by her forever family at home, she took her final bow and reunited beyond the veil with her beloved husband, Rex, her daughter Debi, and cherished family and friends.
Act I – The Curtain Rises - Born on March 4, 1939, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Reinhold and Maria Stoof, Renie arrived as the treasured "caboose" of eight children. She instantly became the star of the family, adored by her three brothers and four sisters, who doted on and loved her. Her childhood on Blaine Avenue in Sugarhouse was rich with love, laughter, music, and lifelong friendships.
A pivotal moment of her first act occurred in sixth grade when she noticed a handsome, kind-hearted boy, Rex Pearmain. From that moment, their story began, and together they stole the spotlight throughout their years at South High School. This act of young love culminated in their marriage in the Salt Lake Temple on December 4, 1959, marking the beginning of a union that would shape the lives of generations to come.
Act II – Live, Laugh, Love - Renie and Rex, as the directors of their family production, welcomed a cast of beloved children: Debi (deceased), Kenny (Elyse), Ricky (Amy), Steve (Heather), Kris (Randy) Clements, and Kari. "Grammy Renie," became her favorite role of her life loved by her 12 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
Renie was a gifted pianist and lyricist, she could masterfully create catchy lyrics to any song. Her creativity was shared with many audiences as she wrote and directed over 20 ward roadshows and stake productions for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, sparking a lifelong love of music and theater in countless hearts. Whether you were onstage or in the audience, Renie made you feel like you had just been a part of a Broadway worthy production.
Act III – A Legacy of Kindness - In her later years, Renie loved her roles as mother, grandmother, and disciple of Jesus Christ. Through her countless acts of service, she exemplified the Savior’s teachings—mourning with those who mourned, comforting those who stand in need of comfort, and lifting the hands that hung low with her “Pollyanna” spirit. Renie lived by the motto of “do good deeds,” and “think kind thoughts”. Renie loved everyone and everyone loved her but above all, she loved her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
