Surrounded by loved ones, Henry James Middleton, Jr. of South Jordan, Utah our loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather peacefully passed-away on September 5, 2020.  Henry was born October 13, 1929 in Ogden Utah to Henry James Middleton and Mabel Anderson Middleton, the oldest of 6 children.  Dad grew up in Ogden where his family had resided for several generations.

Dad married his eternal companion, LouJean Bowman, on August 11, 1948 in the Logan Utah Temple.  He greatly cherished Mom and their family.   He sorely missed her when she passed in 2015.    They have 4 children,  Connie (Jeff) Snarr,  Craig (Peggy) Middleton,  Brent (Tracy) Middleton, and Michelle (Jeff) Thomson.  They have 18 Grandchildren and 30 Great-Grandchildren.

Dad was preceded in death by his loving wife LouJean,  his brother Doug, his grandchildren Kristen Thomson and Brandon Snarr.

Dad pursued Education as his career, with a Bachelor’s degree from Weber State College and a Master’s degree from Utah State University.    History was his field of expertise.  His knowledge and acquaintance with early American History was impressive. Through his Master’s degree, he also brought forth the story of the compelling life of his great-grandfather, Charles F. Middleton, who played important roles in the growth and development of northern Utah, particularly Ogden.  He loved to learn and had a strong intellect which stayed with him through all his days.

Dad started his teaching career at Cypress High School.   Most of his career was spent at Skyline High School where he was both a teacher and a Vice-Principal.  He was an outstanding educator and throughout his career in education he touched thousands of lives.  After his retirement from Education he would often have former students approach him with gratitude for their experience with him as an educator.

He was an excellent teacher academically, of the gospel, and through example.  He continued to teach his family and those around him up through the day of his passing with his Christ-like example.   Over his life, the spiritual side became increasingly important.  Dad loved to serve, with his latest calling to serve as a Sealer in the Jordan River Temple.

As his spirituality increased throughout his life, his examples of being a disciple of Jesus Christ emanated from him.  He was a truly kind and gracious man who would always remember to genuinely thank those with whom he interacted, but particularly those who cared for and assisted him.   As a family, we wish to specifically thank those from Atlas Hospice, (particularly Ashley and Skyler) and Home Care Associates (Cierra, Kali, and Christian) who tenderly and lovingly help provide for his care during the final few months of his life.  Your loving kindness will never be forgotten.

Dad became a particularly good painter, and there are many original paintings by him which are deeply cherished by his posterity.

He was an excellent father who always watched over and looked for ways to help his children, his posterity, and his neighbors.  We always knew of his love and support for each of his children and his posterity.  While he had immense love for each of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, he had two with special needs which hold a particularly special and tender part of his heart.  We know he is looking forward with great anticipation to being with them in the eternities when all is made right.  As a family, we often comment how blessed we are to have had he and mom as our parents.  We look forward happily to the continuing family bonds and express our admiration and love for this man and his life.

Private family services will be held Saturday, September 12, 2020, 11:00 a.m. at The River Ridge 8th Ward, 1409 W Shields Lane.  Services will be streamed Saturday at 11 a.m. on the link provided at the bottom of Henry's obituary.    Interment South Jordan Cemetery.
