Gayle Hiatt Hodson, our beloved wife, mother, and grandmother passed away at age 87 the morning of May 13th, 2023, in the arms of her loving husband and surrounded by loved ones. She has been joyfully received in heaven by her parents, three brothers, four sisters, son Randy, and daughter Wendy. Gayle is survived by her husband Wayne Kay Hodson and their children Elden (Jan Hodson), Linda (Dan Jessop), Sandra (Rafael Ralon), and Andy (Susan Vanallen). She was a proud grandmother with a legacy of 23 grandchildren and 43 great grandchildren who she cherished.
Gayle was born August 7, 1935, to Ruby Edith Kerr and James Lafayette Hiatt in Payson, UT. She lost both parents at a very young age and lived with siblings and other family members during part of her childhood. Gayle graduated from Payson High and met her husband while in her senior year. Gayle and Wayne were sealed for time and all eternity on May 18th, 1955, in the Salt Lake Temple. They were blessed with almost 68 years together.
Gayle was a proud and dedicated member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She experienced a great deal of sadness in her childhood and at a very young age she turned to Christ during her trials. She would often attend church by herself to find comfort and hope.
During her life Gayle served in many church callings; she especially enjoyed callings that involved children, particularly as a primary teacher and as a Cub Scout leader. Gayle was also a loving visiting teacher with unlimited compassion and charity for those she served.
Outside of church service, she had many interests and hobbies. She loved cats, Hallmark movies, Gone With The Wind, and in her later years enjoyed camping and traveling with Wayne. Gayle also worked as a seamstress for about ten years. Gayle was very passionate and loving while also strong and determined; she was always ready to stand up for what was right. She could move mountains for a worthy cause.
Family meant everything to Gayle. She loved them fiercely but also had a sassy side to her. Gayle especially loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren and would spend countless hours playing board games and telling them stories of her life. Every visit she would make sure to ask, ”You know I love you?” Gayle leaves a legacy of love and faith through her family.
We give our heartfelt thanks to the loving caregivers at Renew Home Health and Orchard Park Ward for their help and support.
