1922-2016
Lifelong Salt Lake resident Gene Lund, 93, died January 27, 2016 of natural causes. Born July 18, 1922 in Salt Lake City to George Lund and Isabel Frewin Lund. Gene married Joyce Elaine Tagg on June 17, 1942 in the Salt Lake Temple. He attended East High School, the University of Utah and graduated from the Colorado School of Banking. He worked for the FBI, the Salt Lake Police Department, and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Gene’s career was in banking. He joined Union Bank in 1953 and spent most of his career with First Security State Bank as Vice President and Manager of the Insurance Dept. He was a member of the LDS church and served in many capacities. His greatest joy was his family. He loved traveling, playing golf, wintering in Mesquite and bowling, once rolling a 298 game.
He is survived by his wife Joyce, daughters Jann Mecham, Lisa (John) Goodman of Salt Lake; sons, Paul Lund of Salt Lake, Matthew Lund (Doug Wylie) of Palm Springs, CA; sister, Annabelle Stone; brother, Dale Lund; 4 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren, and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Lowell and Marius.
A Viewing/Visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 3 from 5:30-7:00 P.M. and Thursday, February 4 from 10:00-11:00 A.M., at the Cannon Mortuary, 2460 E. Bengal Blvd. (7600 South). A graveside service will be Thursday, February 4 at the Midway Cemetery at 12:30 P.M.
