Ernest Ray Jepperson

1925 – 2014

Our beloved father, grandfather, brother, and husband, Ernest Ray Jepperson, passed away peacefully, and surrounded by his loving family, on Father’s Day June 15, 2014 at the age of 89.

Ray was born May 27, 1925 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Ernest Lavern Jepperson and Louise Ancell Jepperson. Ray was the oldest of four children.  His sister Bev said “he was the best big brother anyone could ever have!” Ray graduated from South High School and joined the Navy during World War II where he trained to be a pilot.

Ray married Effie Elaine Thomson on December 17, 1948 in the Salt Lake Temple. They have been sweethearts for 66 years.  Ray worked as a CPA for over 51 years. Throughout his life Ray had a passion for airplanes and flying. Ray was hard working, talented, humble, and dedicated in every part of his life. Ray’s family appreciates the opportunity they had to take care of their Dad after so many years of him taking care of us.

The Jepperson family wants to express heartfelt gratitude to caregivers and hospice personnel. Special thanks go to Josh Wakefield who made Ray’s last year more comfortable, and staff at the William E. Christoffersen Veterans Home who gave him love and comfort in the final weeks of his life.

Survived by his wife, Elaine; children, Doug (Pam) Jepperson, Randy Jepperson, Tom (Carol) Jepperson, Janice Jepperson, Sheri Jepperson, Bonnie (Shaun) Jepperson Berrett; sister, Beverly (Paul) Jentszch; 20 grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday June 18, 2014 at LDS chapel at 7075 South 2245 East.  A viewing will be held from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in the Sandy City Cemetery.
