Elner VaLois Roderick Bybee

1927 - 2015

Elner VaLois Roderick Bybee, our beautiful mother and grandmother, was blessed to pass away on July 31, 2015, after a short illness at her home surrounded by her family.  She was born on January 20, 1927, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Elmer Hawkins Roderick and Genessee Luane Dawson, third of five children.  She married her handsome soldier boy, John Raleigh Bybee, on May 1, 1946, in the Salt Lake Temple.  Together they raised their seven children, as well as several others, adopted in every way except legally.

She spent her life in service to her family and neighbors, always remembering their birthdays.  She was famous for her homemade bread and seasonal candies.  She served as a Relief Society President as well as in many other callings in the LDS Church.  She was a highly skilled secretary for more than 30 years, seventeen of them for the LDS Church Education System.  Her amazing singing voice thrilled audiences and congregations of the LDS church throughout her life and she conducted music until she fell ill at 88.  She was active in TOPS and KOPS for many years, known as the one who won most of the contests and drawings.  She loved her friends as well as everyone who would open their hearts to her, she would win at a game whenever possible.

She is survived by her sister, Carol Maples, children: Stephen, Charlene Wall (Robin), daughter-in-law Lisa (Mark, deceased), Michael (Karen), MaryAnn Clausen (Tom), Jack (Terry), daughter-in-law Merrilynn (Delvan, deceased), 100 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 8, 2015, 11:00 a.m. at the 33 rd LDS Ward Building, 1845 East 7200 South.  A viewing will be held, Friday, August 7, 2015 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Cannon Mortuary, 2460 E. Bengal Blvd. (7600 S) and the day of the service at the church from 9:30-10:45 a.m.  Interment Logan City Cemetery
