Eleanor Blair Crooks (Yates)
1935 - 2015
Our sweet mom, grandmother, great grandmother and friend peacefully left us on Saturday, December 5 after a brave one-month fight against cancer. Our hearts are broken, but we are comforted knowing there is a sweet reunion on the other side.
Eleanor was born on October 11, 1935 in Logan, Utah to Bennett George Blair and Gladys Mae Williams. Arriving one month early and barely four pounds, her life was a miracle. She grew up in Logan, enjoying close family ties and many adventures until her family’s move to Salt Lake in 1945. She attended schools in Logan and Salt Lake City. To Eleanor, though, Logan was always home and she loved the many visits there and would always have a great story to share with us.
She met the love of her life Earl Richard Crooks in November 1953 on a blind date. They were married on August 4, 1954 in Salt Lake City and enjoyed many happy times raising their family, taking family trips and enjoying time together until Earl’s passing June 26, 1984. We are so grateful they are together again. She married Roland Yates on October 7, 1995 and lovingly cared for him until his death January 22, 2004.
Our mom’s greatest joy was her family. She loved her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren so much and enjoyed any chance she could get to hold a new baby! Cleaning, family BBQs, weddings and holidays, but above all she enjoyed serving others. Mom was so proud of her family’s accomplishments and thrilled to see them all happy!
She was a member of the LDS church and enjoyed going to church with her children.
Eleanor is preceded in death by her parents, sister Luane and many aunts, uncles, cousins, friends and many pets she nurtured. She is survived by her son and daughter in law Richard and Debbie Crooks (Maple Valley, WA), their children, Brian and Jennifer Crooks, Michael and Erin Moore, Kelli and Matt Emery, and Matthew and Kendra Crooks. Her daughter and son in law Cindi and Brian Pugmire (Cottonwood Heights), and their children Lindsi and Nick Barber, Kristi and David Romero and Benjamin Pugmire. She leaves 13 great grandchildren and one sweet baby girl due in just a few days.
Our family would like to thank Care Source Hospice, Coene and Regina for their loving care of our mom during her illness.
Services will be held at Cannon Mortuary, 2460 East Bengal Blvd.(7600 S.), Salt Lake City at 12:30 PM., Friday, December 11, 2015. Visitation for friends and family will be at 11:30 AM. Interment will be at Logan City Cemetery the same day.
Goodbye sweet Elfie; we will hold you in our hearts until we see you again.
