Don E. Knapton, our loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather (grandpa great), (93) passed away peacefully at his home on August 24, 2022.
Don was born on May 28, 1929, to Walter Thomas and Estella Sara Redmond Knapton in Salt Lake City, Utah. Don grew up in Salt Lake City and graduated from Granite High School. He served an LDS mission in Hawaii and traveled back to Hawaii several times throughout his life.
Don joined the United States Army and served in the Korean War. He married his sweetheart, Carrie Crouch Knapton on March 7, 1952, in Camp Roberts, California, and was later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on April 14, 1952.
Don cherished his membership in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He served in various callings throughout his life, including serving in the Salt Lake Temple for 20 years. He had an unwavering testimony and exemplified the love of the Savior through his love and service to others.
Don loved his family and always put them first. He supported his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren through all their endeavors and loved them unconditionally. His great-grandchildren were his pride and joy, and they loved him. His nickname was “grandpa great” to all his great-grandchildren. He always asked, “Guess what? I love you.”
He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Carrie Crouch Knapton, son Robert (Vicki), six grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.
