David O. Young

1929-2014

David Otto Young, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle and friend, passed away on October 15, 2014, at home, of complications due to a stroke.

Born July 26, 1929 in Provo Utah to Sidney and Maida Young, David was always hard working, clever, and a flirt with a charming smile. The fourth son of five boys, David and his brothers (Mel, Kay, Grant, and Jerry), worked their father’s timber yard and dairy farm.  On June 8, 1948, he married his sweetheart, Glade Lusty, in the Salt Lake Temple. He took his strength, stubbornness, and problem solving skills into his continuous effort to care for his wife and children and keep their residence comfortable and working smoothly.  The family lived in various locations—Idaho Falls, ID; Lincoln, ID; Ammon ID; Mapleton, UT; Springville, UT; and Salt Lake City, UT.  As Santa’s helper, David’s twinkling blue eyes and warm laughter brought joy to many children over 50 years.

David served faithfully in many positions in the LDS church, from a member of the Quorum of the 70, a visitor’s guide at the Idaho Falls Temple Visitor’s Center, a stake missionary, to high priest group leader in several different wards.  David’s favorite calling was serving as a temple worker in the Jordan River, then the Salt Lake Temple. He held this calling for more than twenty years.

He is survived by his wife, Glade, their three sons—Karl (Kathy), Kevin (Barbara), and Jeff (Gaye); their five daughters—Karen (Walter Terry), Roni (Mike Broderick), Arlee (Doug Kinyon), Jody (Ken Ames), and Amy (Jason Wadsworth); their 39 grandchildren and 66 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, October 23 at 1:00 PM at Brighton First Ward, 2925 East Bengal Blvd (7800 S.).  Friends may call at the Cannon Mortuary, 2460 East Bengal Blvd. Wednesday October 22, from 6-8 PM and the day of the service at the church from 12 to 12:45 p.m.   Interment Mountain View Memorial Estates at 3115 E. Bengal Blvd., Cottonwood Heights, Utah.
