DANIEL K. TAWA, our dearly missed dad, brother/brother-in-law, nephew, uncle and cousin - died on Sunday, May 23, 2021 at his home in Sandy, Utah. He was born in 1945 in Fillmore, Utah to Hiroshi & Sumi Tawa. Dan served honorably in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam-era as a medical laboratory specialist at US Army Hospital, Wurzburg, Germany. Dan earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Microbiology from Westminster College of Salt Lake City in 1981. Dan retired from Laboratory Services (microbiology) at the VA Medical Center, Salt Lake City, Utah.
Dan so loved his family and his two rescue cats, but lived for his two sons, Kai & Mack. His love of nature and teaching his sons and nieces & nephews to enjoy “everything outdoors” leaves a legacy to remember.
Survived by his sons, Kai Tawa (Annee Hansen) and Mack Tawa. His sisters, Jane (Fumi) Watanabe; Janice (Tom) Williams; Yoshi (Byron) Petersen and sister-cousin, Joanne (Gordon) Nakaki-Hanson; and his aunt, Kiyoko Yoshida (CA) - as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Our gratitude for the amazing care provided by the Huntsman Cancer Institute under the direction of Benjamin Maughan, MD PharmD, Lindsay Maxwell, APRN and the entire immunotherapy staff. Our appreciation to Community Nursing Services (CNS) Home Hospice Program who cared for Dan with dignity and compassion that was priceless.
As per his wishes, no memorial services will be held. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Huntsman Cancer Foundation: thehuntsman.org/give
