Our hearts are deeply saddened by the unexpected passing of Daniel E. Mortensen on January 9, 2018. He was born on January 24, 1965 in Salt Lake City, Utah to David E. and Roene B. Mortensen.
He is survived by his son, Hylun E. Mortensen; mother, Roene B. Wilkinson; sister, Susie (Brent) Christensen; brothers, Marc (Jill) Mortensen and Ryan (Holly) Mortensen. He is also survived by his former step-mother, Suzie Mortensen and step-sister, Nikki Haslam. Dan married Dot Gallo on October 1, 1993. He treated his step-son, Jovi Bathemess, as his own.
Dan attended Bella Vista Elementary, Butler Middle School and Brighton High School in Cottonwood Heights. He loved sports and excelled in football and baseball. He was an avid fisherman and hunter and loved coaching his boys in various sports. Most people knew Dan from D&K Auto Parts on Fort Union Blvd, where he worked closely with and learned a great deal about hard work from his father, Dave. He was a skilled auto mechanic and genuinely enjoyed helping people with their vehicles. He was a little rough around the edges with an incredibly charitable heart. Dan was well thought of by his friends and coworkers at O’Reilly Auto Parts in Draper, where he worked as their Parts Manager.
We’ll always cherish the memories we’ve shared throughout the years. Until we meet again, Danny. All our love.
