Daniel DeZotell
1953 - 2015
Daniel DeZotell, 61 of Salt Lake City, UT, passed away suddenly on Sunday February 22, 2015 at his home in Salt Lake City, UT.
Daniel James DeZotell, son of Dale and Gladys (Helleckson) DeZotell, was born on May 4, 1953, in Sioux Falls, SD. Dan graduated from Lincoln High School 1971 and helped his father Dale with his electrical business (DeZotell Electric). He attended Augustana College in Sioux Falls for a year, and transferred to the University of Utah to take architectural classes.
After the University of Utah Dan worked for a several different architectural firms before he joined Harold P. Woodruff Architect/Planner. Dan became licensed as an architect in State of Utah in 1993. He worked on many multi-family and senior housing projects. Working with clients and getting to know them on a personal level was what Dan enjoyed the most about the profession.
Dan loved to go camping and hiking in the deserts of southern Utah. Dan also liked bike riding. He was also a devoted fan of the Seattle Seahawks, the University of Utah Utes and the Utah Jazz. Dan was easy-going, had a good sense of humor, and liked to have a good time with friends and had many enduring personal qualities we all strive for in life.
Dan was preceded in death by his mother (Gladys) and father (Dale) and brother (Scott) DeZotell. Grateful for having shard his life are his brother (Todd), his three nephews (Scottt’s children), Eric and wife Lindsey (Hoyer) and their three children from Shawnee KS, along with nephews Adam and Michael DeZotell, all from Kansas City, MO.
Dan had numerous friends, a few of his closest were Scott Sogge (Rapid City,SD), Rex Strand and family, Jay Brown and family (Los Alamos, NM) and the Benard family.
Dan’s wishes were to be cremated and his ashes spread on the southern deserts of Utah.
There will be a memorial at Desert Edge Brewery, 600 South 700 East (by Trolly Square) on Sunday, March 1, 2015 from 1 - 4 pm.
