Damon James Newson
1998-2015
Damon James Newson, beloved child, left us on Friday, December 4th, 2015. He had just turned 17.
Our dear son, brother, grandson, great-grandson, cousin, nephew, and friend was the most loving boy we ever knew. He chose to leave us after his love and his sorrow became too much for him.
Born on December 3rd, 1998 to James Steven Newson and Brandi Turner McGrath, he was immediately loved and never spent a second of his brief life without that love surrounding him.
He was an engaging baby with bright blue eyes and a crooked little smile. And he grew into the sweetest child, a bright little toddler who loved everyone and everything. No animal on this earth could resist his charms.
As he got older, his sharp mind and easy laughter brightened the lives of so many loved ones. He was a talented and gifted child, and was an excellent student. Possessing a natural mechanical talent he loved building things and figuring out how things worked. He wanted to get an engineering degree and go into design and manufacturing.
He grew up fishing, camping, shooting, and hunting with his family and he enjoyed these activities so much.
Damon loved riding skateboards, exploring the city and drawing silly comics with his family and friends. He could often be found playing video games and had a particular love for Fallout, including playing live action games with his friends every year in the desert. He loved learning how to bake and cook from his mother and was such a help around both of his homes. He made sure all the family pets had food and water and love.
Damon brought joy to everyone who knew him and we will forever be changed by his influence on our lives and by his absence in it.
In this time of sorrow for those of us he left behind, remember that as long as we hold him in our hearts and minds, he is never truly gone.
He is survived by his father James and his mother Brandi, his sisters Fae and Melanie, and his brother Jacob. He is also survived by his step mother Angie, his step father Tyler, and his grandparents; Dick and Dana Newson, Bryan and Karen Turner, Mike Harris, and Ed and Mardene McGrath. And his great grandmothers Beverly and Norma, his great grandfather Boone and so many uncles, aunts, cousins and too many friends to count.
He is, was, and will always be loved.
Services will be held at Cannon Mortuary, 2460 East Bengal Blvd. (7600 S.), Salt Lake City at 5 PM, Saturday, December 12, 2015 . Visitation for friends and family will be at 4 PM .
If you wish to bring him a small token of affection or a letter to send him on his way, please do so.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to Sarah’s Bearded Dragon Rescue, a local reptile rescue. He loved all reptiles, even the bitey ones, and we can honor him best this way.
