Funeral Recording
Our beloved dad and “Grandpa Pete” passed away peacefully on December 13, 2020 of pancreatic cancer.
He was born on June 16, 1930 in Holladay, Utah to Joseph Clyde and Marguerite Olson Neilson.
He married Nancy Racker on December 15, 1955 in the Salt Lake Temple. Together they had 4 children.
He spent his life in the food industry working first for Old Mill Dutch Products and then for Miller Honey Company. He spent approximately 60 years doing what he loved and retired at the “young age” of 85. He was affectionately known as the “Honey Man.”
Dad served in many positions for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, including many bishoprics, and other leadership capacities. His greatest love was working with the youth in the Church. He had a tremendous impact on their lives.
Dad’s greatest passions include gardening, canning, working on sprinkling systems and anything else where he could get his hands dirty, much to the chagrin of our Mother, Nancy.
Dad’s greatest interests in life were his family and his many, many friends that he regarded as family. Dad spent countless hours moving people, visiting people, counseling people and just generally being there any time, they needed help. He was a very Christlike individual who never put his own interests in front of others.
He leaves 4 children, Jeff (Teri) Neilson, Steve (April) Neilson, Heidi Neilson (Gary) Marshall and Kris Neilson Nelson. He leaves a great legacy behind, including 14 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren and 3 more on the way.
To tell you he will be missed would be a great understatement for all of us.
He was surrounded by his loving family from the moment of his diagnosis to the moment of his passing. We especially want to express our gratitude to all of those who showed their love and friendliness during our father’s illness. He loved each of you very much and we feel comforted that he will now be reunited with his eternal sweetheart in better circumstances than when she left.
